We began our married life not so long ago, with nothing but a few suitcases and each other.
Our clumsy blow-up mattress was like a little raft on a giant sea.
The walls were bare. The mezcal made us warm. The cake kept us sober.
We ate in a comfortable silence. I never felt as pretty as when I cooked for you.
Our favorite place was the one with the flowers on the table. The one with the strawberry tarts that reminded us of home.
We made time and indulged, satisfied in a newness marked by all things shared.
